Description eagleforce 2020-03-31 11:22:48 UTC
System: Dell Latitude XT2
More info about the system: https://www.notebookcheck.net/Review-Dell-Latitude-XT2-Tablet-PC-Convertible.23746.0.html

Operating system: Debian 10 (Buster) netinstall with lightdm and i3wm.

This System has a trackpoint with two mouse buttons. These work well.
It also has a touchpad with another two mouse buttons below the touchpad. These two mouse buttons just don't work with Linux kernel 4.19 and higher.

On Debian 9 (Stretch) with Kernel 4.9.X the mouse buttons work just fine.

I installed Debian 10 and downgraded kernel to 4.9.0-12 (4.9.210-1). So the mouse is working again.
Linux hostname 4.9.0-12-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 4.9.210-1 (2020-01-20) x86_64 GNU/Linux

What's causing this problem? I would prefer stable Debian with actual kernel, if I could determine the issue and solve it.

If you need more information, just ask. Thank you for your help.
Comment 1 Borislav Petkov 2020-03-31 16:48:59 UTC
You should report debian bugs on their bugzilla. I'm being told you should use the

$ reportbug kernel

command.

HTH.
Comment 2 eagleforce 2020-04-04 22:45:42 UTC
It isn't a debian bug. The same problem exist with other linux distributions.
Works with: BunsenLabs (helium-5), Star
Doesn't work: BunsenLabs (lithium-dev4), Puppy Linux, Manjaro, Tails
Comment 3 Borislav Petkov 2020-04-05 08:07:22 UTC
The relevant question is whether this is an upstream kernel bug or not as this is the bugzilla for upstream kernel bugs. IOW, can you reproduce with the upstream kernel 5.6:

https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git/snapshot/linux-5.6.tar.gz

?
Comment 4 eagleforce 2020-04-05 11:40:46 UTC
I just tried with kernel 5.6 following this guide: https://lignux.com/tutorial-para-instalar-la-version-de-mantenimiento-del-kernel-linux-5-6/

Same problem.
