There is no issue with 2.6.12.4 kernel. However, with other 2.6 kernels, copy are slow (speed of 20 MByte/s for read)
Could you try a recent kernel? If it still happens - could you try the latest dev version, 2.6.18-rc3? (it has improved error handling and may give developerse a better clue of what is happening)
Please reopen this bug if it's still present in kernel 2.6.18.
