Steps to reproduce: Try resolving the hostname of the atl1 nic from another pc using avahi. It will work sporadically at best. When promisc is enabled, it works perfectly.

Sam, this appears to have been fixed in kernel 2.6.27.8. Can you please check your kernel version?
Upgraded to kernel version 2.6.27-11-generic from Ubuntu Intrepid repos, problem appears to be fixed now. Thanks for the help. Sam
