From what i could google, there should be a ttyUSB0-2 if device is detected correctly.

Let me know what other traces i can make.

Support for the E220 was added in 2.6.20-rc2 it seems

Patch: Linux 2.6.20-rc2
Johann Wilhelm (2):
      usb-storage: Ignore the virtual cd-drive of the Huawei E220 USB Modem
      usb-gsm-driver: Added VendorId and ProductId for Huawei E220 USB Modem

Found a reference to a utility to setup the usb device, will test monday.

Working.
from
http://www.kanoistika.sk/bobovsky/archiv/umts/

used recommended tool, it activated/waked the usb device and 2more ttyUSB devices became active.

Rebooted.
insert usb gsm modem, and all 3 appeared again.
dialing working fine.

not sure it it is something that can be incorporated into kernel, no gpl notice found on code.
Comment 5 Greg Kroah-Hartman 2007-07-17 23:24:16 UTC
Can you try Linus's latest kernel tree (or wait for 2.6.23-rc1)? There is changes in there for this device and it should "just work" properly.

As for the userspace code that does the wierd device change, it is licensed under the gpl. I'll attach it here so it doesn't get lost.

c code that does something to the device.

Cleaned up code from the previous version. Can someone test this stuff out?
Comment 8 Pieter E Smit 2007-09-05 22:20:02 UTC
i need a hint as to how to compile it.
Comment 9 felix 2007-10-23 17:50:07 UTC
same result on
Linux version 2.6.22-14-powerpc (buildd@ross) (gcc version 4.1.3 20070929 (prerelease) (Ubuntu 4.1.2-16ubuntu2)) #1 Sun Oct 14 21:42:06 GMT 2007
option.c is version v0.7.1

running the c code as root did bring up the additional devices as expected and the device worked for me, in a repeatable manner.

Comment 10 Pieter E Smit 2007-11-28 22:00:50 UTC
Ok moved on to 2.6.23.9 and now i am getting usb allocation errors for the 3Gusb device. Doing a lsusb i can see it appear (no description) and disappear.

Moved back to 2.6.22.9 and all is fine once activated with the c code.
Syslog extract at the bottom.

I added the following file as /etc/udev/rules.d/50-huawei-e220.rules
SUBSYSTEM=="usb", SYSFS{idProduct}=="1003", SYSFS{idVendor}=="12d1", RUN+="/home/pes/download/huaweiAktBbo-i386.out"
SUBSYSTEM=="usb", SYSFS{idProduct}=="1003", SYSFS{idVendor}=="12d1", RUN+="/bin/sleep 5"
SUBSYSTEM=="usb", SYSFS{idProduct}=="1003", SYSFS{idVendor}=="12d1", RUN+="/sbin/modprobe usbserial vendor=0x12d1 product=0x1003"

To automate the setup of the device.

Syslog - of working 2.6.22.9 kernel
Comment 12 Pieter Smit 2008-02-08 14:10:07 UTC
Linux linux 2.6.24pes12 #1 SMP Thu Feb 7 23:37:59 SAST 2008 i686 GNU/Linux
This 2.6.24-git17   -> Ubuntu 7.10

And the ports are created without any intervention.
/dev/ttyUSB0  and 1

the HSDPA modem works fine, also interesting is that i dont get the popup

i was also able to mount the /dev/sr1 on the USB-HSDPA modem, and see the windows install files.

From syslog..

Have you tried
