Currently used config

Cursor jump on drag and drop with two fingers, tried the solution described here and did not work, as for the users at the end of the thread.
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2204700

Tried lot of synaptics configuration but seems to be kernel related as it is present across a wide number of distribution.
xf86-input-synaptics 1.8.0-2 (xorg-drivers xorg) [installed]

Also tried clickpad solution from the wiki https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Touchpad_Synaptics#Buttonless_touchpads_.28aka_ClickPads.29
Thanks

Experiencing the same with a Dell Inspiron 7573 running Mint 17.

Various threads talk about setting AreaBottomEdge, which does fix scrolling with one finger. But when click and scroll, cursor continually jumps around the viewport.

Confirmed also with kernel 3.16.3-1-ARCH and
latest xf86-input-synaptics-1.8.1-1.

I confirm this bug on Dell 7537 and Ubuntu 14
Comment 4 Gary 2014-12-02 22:42:53 UTC
I also confirm this bug on Dell 7537 with GT750 video, I have tried Ubuntu 14.04 LTS and Linux Mint 17.1, plus many other distros I have tried all respond the same with this clickpad, the 'fix' doesn't fix it. I'd love to see this fixed.
Comment 5 Dave Henry 2014-12-06 19:07:51 UTC
I can confirm this bug on several distros: Fedora 20, Ubuntu 14.04 (+ derviatives), Sabayon 14.11, Arch Linux, Manjaro (Arch derivative). Ubuntu 14.10, 14.04.1, and Fedora 21 have either patched the problem or created configuration workarounds.

Just to be explicit, I'm talking about a Dell Inspiron 15" 7537 with Intel i915 video.
Comment 7 Gary 2014-12-06 20:06:56 UTC
I have also tested this laptop Dell Inspiron 7537 with RedHat 7.0 with NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M (a.k.a. N14P-GT) with dedicated 2GB RAM, workaround don't work.
Comment 8 arekanderu 2014-12-16 18:35:47 UTC
I also confirm this bug on a Dell Inspiron 15" 7000 with Ubuntu 14.04.1
Comment 9 Alessandro Zucca 2014-12-16 18:39:37 UTC
On the ubuntu certified page this product ad listed as completely working with linux and there is written that is shipped also with ubuntu in some countries. Anyone has bought this version?
Comment 10 arekanderu 2014-12-16 18:47:23 UTC
I read that too and that's why I bought this laptop...apparently its not true.

I installed Ubuntu 14.04 and 14.04.1 and it worked in the latter as well as
14.10. The fix appears to be Ubuntu-specific.

I did a fresh install today of Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS and it does not work so I am having trouble accepting that it works for you when so many other people report the same issue.

Are you using Ubuntu standard or something like Kubuntu or Xubuntu? My
experience has been that all 14.10's have fixed the issue, but only the
standard 14.04.1 has the fix. Don't ask me why because I do not know. You
can always use 14.10. Also, Fedora 21 seems to have a fix, but the
multitude of others I've tried do not.

I was testing a lot of distros at once. It's possible I got my wires
crossed in testing LTS and 14.10.

I can confirm this bug on openSUSE Tumbleweed x64, kernel 3.18.1, brand new synaptics touchpad, TUXEDO Book BU1403.If the cursor jumps, it jumps to a corner of the screen.
Comment 21 Thomas Langkamp 2015-01-25 09:50:19 UTC
tested again with 3.16.7 (from opensuse 13.2) and 3.18.3 (yesterdays tumbleweed)
Could the problem be that dmesg reports 2 touchpads?

dmesg | grep Syn
[ 4.005790] input: SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad as /devices/platform/i8042/serio2/input/input6
[ 5.459488] input: SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad as /devices/platform/i8042/serio2/input/input10

will attach synaptics conf
what other infos / specs can I provide?

Comment 25 Thomas Langkamp 2015-01-25 21:44:58 UTC
confirmed: xinput shows now 1 touchpad, same with dmesg. Do not know why dmesg showed 2 before... maybe the reboot...
still - we need that ubuntu-fix for all distros upstream.
Comment 26 Thomas Langkamp 2015-02-20 08:40:55 UTC
still there with 3.18.3
Comment 27 Thomas Langkamp 2015-03-17 21:51:57 UTC
still there with 3.19.1

what other infos / specs can I provide?
Comment 28 Anthony Vital 2015-04-29 15:59:57 UTC
seems to work with 4.0.1
Comment 29 Alessandro Zucca 2015-05-02 14:25:54 UTC
Confirmed to work properly on 4.0.1-1-ARCH.
I should close it now;)
Comment 30 Julian Alexander 2016-02-16 08:30:16 UTC
I can confirm the issue still exists on Kernel 4.5RC3 (Fedora 23 with Rawhide Kernel).

My new Lenovo E460 laptop utilises an Alps touchpad and cursor jumps when I drag and drop with two fingers. It's pretty annoying and make the touchpad almost useless.

Could someone please look into this?

Thanks.
Comment 31 Thomas Langkamp 2016-02-16 11:01:14 UTC
Yeah, I can confirm this also. Kernel 4.0.1 may have worked but the bug is now back with my Synaptics touchpad: https://bugzilla.kernel.org/attachment.cgi?id=164671
Comment 32 Thomas Langkamp 2016-02-19 15:30:52 UTC
Workaround:
If your distro already offers libinput (the new input stack in town that will also used by wayland) you can switch to it.
- libinput10 version 1.1.5
- xf86-input-libinput 0.16.0
are the packages that were just installed on my system.
For me openSUSE Tumbleweed just switched to them automatically and so fixed the problem.
I am sorry that I cannot provide info on how to switch manually (e.g. if it is needed to change any config files too) if you are on another distro.

Note You need to log in before you can comment on or make changes to this bug.
