The screen goes blank, something is written on the hard disk, and the system hangs up. At this point, nothing can resume the system, except pressing the power button five seconds, which shuts every down. With 2.6.18 and latest 2.6.17 kernels, suspend-to-RAM was working properly. With older kernels, I got the system crash on resume instead of on stand-by. Steps to reproduce: Enter in suspend mode using pm-suspend or GNOME This seems to be a "work-in-Windows" BIOS bug, but suspend-to-RAM worked with 2.6.18 kernels. I would like to get more information to investigate the exact cause of this bug, but absolutely nothing appears in the syslog when I reboot the machine after the crash. Unloading ipw3945 module (Intel Wireless) does not change anything. I also tried to unload network, sound and USB modules without any success. Unfortunately, I have no time to recompile the kernel with the suspend2 patch or obscure debugging options.
Can you please try the s2ram utility (http://en.opensuse.org/s2ram)?
The bug disappeared after I upgraded my BIOS. Suspend-to-RAM continues working with kernel 2.6.19 and 2.6.20, so the problem was BIOS-specific. I will try the above utility if the problem comes back.
Thanks for the information. Can you please check if the newer kernels (most importantly 2.6.22-rc5) handle the suspend correctly on your box now?
