I'm running a netbook with an Atom Z5x0 CPU and a US15W chipset. The graphics controller is called GMA500. On Windows XP and 7 (32bit) I need a special driver from Intel, as this GMA500 seems to be very different from the others sharing the same name. A few days ago I installed Linux on it and found that the screen was flickering. According to dmesg the system is using video=psbdrmfb. I tried to boot without starting a graphical window manager and on the text console I see the same thing: flickering. I am using kernel 3.13. With video=vesafb (I had to remove gma500_gfx.ko to get vesafb working) the flickering is gone -- but it is very slow and resolution is wrong. Searching for a solution I found that there are various reposts of the same problem: please try "gma500_gfx flicker" as search query in Google. This seems to be this very bug: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=78562
Is this patch in the kernel? https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=78562#c17 I don't have immediate access to this netbook right now, but I can test this should it be requested...
