Comment 1 Eliyahu Sandler 2006-07-31 02:29:14 UTC
Sorry about the empty bug reposrt.
When I try to boot the kvm (CS-64U from ATEN) attached the kernel freeze up when
it tries to set the MSI quirk.
The motherboard is ASUS PRL=-DLS533.
I inserted a usb card and attached the kvm to the usb card and not to the mb
usb, but the same freeze up occured.
My system is a dual xeon cpu with 2GB of memory (ECC).
I run debian and use the unstable branch and the package
linux-image-2.6.17-1-686, updated regulary.

Which USB device driver is in use here?

You say it hangs "when it tries to set the MSI quirk". How do you know it's the
quirk code which is hanging?

On normal boot it hangs just after issusing the message:
PCI: MSI quirk detected. pci_msi_quirk set.

When I added initcall_debug to the kernel parameters, I saw that the
kernel do not return from setting the pci MSI quirk.

Comment 4 Greg Kroah-Hartman 2006-08-30 01:10:30 UTC
David, that quirk is your speciality :)
Comment 5 David Brownell 2006-09-10 08:02:22 UTC
Erm, I have no idea why anyone would think I ever had anything
to do with message signaled interrupts in PCI. Never touched
that code, or even had reason to look at it.
Comment 6 Natalie Protasevich 2007-06-13 16:33:40 UTC
Eliyahu,
The MSI code was revised and pretty much rewritten lately (2.6.19 and up). Can you give it a shot? If it fails still, can you please attach a boot trace?

Please reopen this bug if it's still present with kernel 2.6.22.
