Description Giannis 2013-11-11 00:39:39 UTC
Bug appeared from 3.10-RC1 kernel version and later. Still is unsolved with 3.12 kernel release. Last known good kernel was 3.9.11.

Ati Radeon 2600 PRO 512mb (Asus)
Gigabyte GA-MA790X-DS4 (BIOS F9)

Bug is reported to Launchpad too and seems affecting many users. https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1239233

Can you bisect?
Comment 2 Alex Deucher 2013-11-11 13:15:30 UTC
What application are you using to play back the movies? Do it work properly with different apps? What API (Xv, X11, vdpau, etc.) are you using to play back the movie?
Comment 3 Giannis 2013-11-11 13:26:52 UTC
The problem exist from web video playback (HTML5 or Flash video) to VLC and Parole.

It is affecting everything. Playback settings are the default on (X)ubuntu.

I already bisect kernel versions but I can't with commit bisect. I am novice user and build a custom kernel to find the commit is too hard for me.

Can I do something else to help?
Comment 5 Raymond 2013-11-15 23:26:29 UTC

Comment 6 Giannis 2013-11-15 23:52:26 UTC
and why before 3.10-RC1 kernel, audio was fine?
Comment 7 Giannis 2013-12-04 14:56:02 UTC
I tested with various rates (44100-48000-92000) and problem is not fixed. Also I tested kernel 3.13-RC1 and bug is still there.
Comment 8 Giannis 2013-12-04 14:57:56 UTC
plus, I did a video playback with VLC. In this case video speed is ok but audio has gaps every 0.5 seconds approximately.

duplicate of freedesktop.org bug 71975?

Comment 10 Giannis 2013-12-08 00:15:04 UTC
Probably yes. This commit was introduced in 3.10-RC1 kernel where the regression introduced too.
Comment 11 Giannis 2013-12-22 22:56:28 UTC
Bug fixed with Mainline Kernel 3.13-RC4

Thank you Alex.
