Bug appeared from 3.10-RC1 kernel version and later. Still is unsolved with 3.12 kernel release. Last known good kernel was 3.9.11. Ati Radeon 2600 PRO 512mb (Asus) Gigabyte GA-MA790X-DS4 (BIOS F9) Bug is reported to Launchpad too and seems affecting many users. https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1239233
Can you bisect?
What application are you using to play back the movies? Do it work properly with different apps? What API (Xv, X11, vdpau, etc.) are you using to play back the movie?
The problem exist from web video playback (HTML5 or Flash video) to VLC and Parole. It is affecting everything. Playback settings are the default on (X)ubuntu. I already bisect kernel versions but I can't with commit bisect. I am novice user and build a custom kernel to find the commit is too hard for me.
Can I do something else to help?
seem only support 48000Hz Codec: ATI R6xx HDMI Address: 0 AFG Function Id: 0x1 (unsol 0) Vendor Id: 0x1002aa01 Subsystem Id: 0x00aa0100 Revision Id: 0x100000 No Modem Function Group found Default PCM: rates [0x40]: 48000 bits [0x2]: 16 formats [0x1]: PCM
and why before 3.10-RC1 kernel, audio was fine?
I tested with various rates (44100-48000-92000) and problem is not fixed. Also I tested kernel 3.13-RC1 and bug is still there.
plus, I did a video playback with VLC. In this case video speed is ok but audio has gaps every 0.5 seconds approximately.
duplicate of freedesktop.org bug 71975? https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=71975
Probably yes. This commit was introduced in 3.10-RC1 kernel where the regression introduced too.
Bug fixed with Mainline Kernel 3.13-RC4 Thank you Alex.
