Please attach your full dmesg output. What GPU is this?

Are you sure cb51bb7107aa040f9779be931e3bd6a7b50e0f69 is the correct commit? That commit only affects the debugfs output. If you don't access those debugfs files, that code in question is never called. Did you also happen to update your userspace drivers (mesa or xf86-video-ati)?

Why "journalctl -a" not enough? If that need I'll post dmesg soon.

Perhaps the fault is not that commit, but 3.11.3 worked entirely without problems. After the upgrade to 3.11.4 similar problems began to arise. I tried to roll back this commit, and was able to work at a computer for long enough. In any case, I will test again.

> xf86-video-ati)?
xf86-video-ati and mesa has not been updated in my system for a long time.

That's fine. No need for dmesg output.

I noticed the same behavior, but it was only reproducible for me when I was calling wmname before launching a java application to correct some usability issues.

Attaching dmesg output.

You are right. This commit is not cause subj. Today the problem of repeated.

I am also having a random lockup problem on my HD6850, with the same CP stall error. Running Mesa 10.0.1 and kernel 3.12.6 vanilla with radeon driver. Attached lspci and dmesg. I'll boot with DPM disabled for the rest of the week and see if that changes it.

This bug is about a GPU hang on an r5xx board. You issue is mostly likely completely unrelated. You issue looks like it may be a duplicate of bug 68571.

Indeed. My apologies.

This is still a problem, with latest Ubuntu 3.13.0-36-lowlatency kernel -
it happened with previous Ubuntu kernels also , 3.13.0-32 - 3.13.0-36 ,
always after the machine is up for a long time (last time it was up for 10 days)
the video displays lock up hard, and I have to SSH in to the machine to reboot
it. This has become the normal way my machine at work gets shut down -
I have never done a normal clean shutdown, because this problem always
crops up first .

When the lockup happens, the <CTRL>+<ALT>+<F{N}> VT switch keys also stop working, and the only way to access the machine is to SSH in from another host.

I was going to report this as an Ubuntu bug, but it appears to be an upstream
bug - or should I report this on Ubuntu as well ?

Same thing happens for me with Ubuntu 14.04.2 and ATI HD3650 GPU, ctrl+alt+fx works fine. Switching back to desktop alt+7 also works but screen is flickering and not responding.

UPDATE: Seems i found a solution. So far almost 48h uptime on my laptop and no crash. What i did, is i added "radeon.hard_reset=1" to GRUB command line.

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash radeon.dpm=1 radeon.hard_reset=1"
