Stefan found his sd card cannot work on Acer Aspire One 756, and found the regression commit is 3c076351c4027a56d5005a39a0b518a4ba393ce2.

If we disable ASPM L1 state, the sd card can work normally.

In Stefan's Acer Aspire machine, OS try to get _OSC control from BIOS, but fail.
Additionally, BIOS FADT dictates NO ASPM should support.
So Linux leave BIOS default ASPM setting for this device.

But strangely, this card can work ok in windows with ASPM L1 state enbled.
I compare the device config space between Linux and Windows, and on difference found, the config space attached.

Apparently the BIOS enabled ASPM L1 and told the OS that we're not allowed to touch ASPM configuration.  So we don't touch ASPM, and the Linux driver doesn't work.  Windows doesn't touch ASPM either, and the Windows driver works.  That suggests a defect in the Linux driver, so I'm going to reassign this to the MMC/SD driver.

Let me know if you think this is incorrect.  Bug #64541 was a similar case where the Windows driver worked with L1 enabled but the Linux driver did not.  Eventually this was fixed by a driver change:

Yes, that matches my conclusion. If windows works with ASPM, then Linux should also.

Im the meantime some people (that own the same notebook or chipset) reported to me that they still get I/O errors with some few SD card types, so the workaround seems to work for most SD cards but not for all.

Maybe both issues caused by the same driver bug.
