Most recent kernel where this bug did not occur: N.A. Distribution: Fedora Core 4 Hardware Environment: AMD-Athlon64-3000+ / ASUS A8V Software Environment: Problem Description: USB address isn't release after unplug device Steps to reproduce: 1) plug a usb-dongle or usb-ext-HD without/or without mount it. Address 2 is assigned to usb-dev 2) unmount it (if mounted!) 3) unplug/disconnect it (on log appears: "USB disconnect, address 2") 4) replug/reconnect it (on log appears: "USB disconnect, address 3") Problem: address 2 is released but isn't reused. After some plugs/unplugs the address are exhausted and the usb-dev became unusable. Logs: Same behavior also with: 2.6.14-1.1637_FC4 Nov 27 18:50:28 k1400 syslogd 1.4.1: restart. Is this issue still present in kernel 2.6.15-rc7?
No, addresses are not used up, they constantly get incremented, that's the way things are supposed to work. If you have an error message for if you run out of addresses, please reopen this bug and attach the error message. Also, this is a Fedora Core kernel, so the bug should be reported there, only open bugs here if you can reproduce the problem with a kernel.org kernel.
