Description of problem:

Suspend works fine. But sometimes on trying to resume, 2 alternating shades of black fill the screen and it freezes. Once I saw some text related to the radeon driver while resuming and even then it just froze.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Suspend.
2. Try to resume.
  
Actual results:

Doesn't resume. Alternating black screen.

Expected results:

Should resume normally.

Note: This is not GNOME specific.

This also happens sometimes when switching console using <Ctrl><Alt><F2> and trying to switch back using <Ctrl><Alt><F1>
So maybe this is not related to suspending after all.

Is this still an issue with newer kernels?

I changed my laptop in September. But, the bug was still there till then.
