Sound is now working in 3.5.3-1-ARCH.
This is what led to this happening:
1)Uninstalled (Archlinux) linux (kernel) and nvidia proprietary drivers.
2)Installed (Archlinux) linux-lts (kernel 3.0.42-1) and nvidia proprietary drivers.
3)Reboot, tested, no sound, no sound devices found by user.
4)Uninstalled then installed (Archlinux) alsa, reinstalled alsa-utils
5)Reboot, tested, no sound, no sound devices found by user.
6)Restarted alsa daemon (sudo rc.d restart alsa)
-reported 3 files not found with PCI addresses of the 3 sound cards on stop.
7)Tested, no sound, no sound devices found by user.
8)Uninstalled (Archlinux) linux-lts (kernel) and nvidia proprietary drivers. 
9)Installed (Archlinux) linux (kernel 3.5.3-1) and nvidia proprietary drivers.
--after reboot, sound worked.

If it works as root, it's rather an issue of device permission.
Check whether the sound device files /dev/snd/* have proper permission for user.

As it's working as root, and the rest problem must be a device permission, which is irrelevant from the original sound driver issue, I close this bug now.
