Description MM 2012-04-17 05:25:53 UTC
I'm running Slackware 13.37 and I compile my own kernel, but I've tested this also on the latest kernel in Slackware Current; 3.2.13, so even
with the Slackware stock kernel, I still had this same issue

I recently used 4 new laptops in my quest to find something Linux compatible and in doing so tested out these 4 laptops, Dell, Samsung, Toshiba
and Sony and noticed the same thing on all 4 laptops, that using the 3.x kernels caused the CPUS to run hotter when compared to the 2.6x
kernels...

Right now I have a Sony VPCEG32FX and looking at Conky or running 'sensors' I'll see the temps for the 1st core running from 7c-10c hotter idle
and under load, also with the fan constantly running faster and not cycling down, while using the 'ondemand' governor.

Please let me know if there is any other information you'd like me to submit and I hope we can please get this fixed in the near future.

I can't tell you how sad I am that I can't use the latest kernels and I want to for better support....

THANKS

This also happens with my Dell E5400. Fan kicks in at high temp, but never comes down.

Exactly how to reproduce -- what applications are you running?
Do you always run "conky"?

What does dmesg show after the failure, any clues there?

No worries now, I'm running 3.4x and I'm not seeing any problem since I reported this...
