Description Mauro M. 2004-08-29 04:19:35 UTC
Distribution: EzPlanet One and Fedora Core 2. Vanilla kernel from www.kernel.org
Hardware Environment: 2 x Pentium III/700 SMP
Software Environment:
Problem Description: the message "kernel: pagebuf_get: failed to lookup pages"
repeatedly appears on console during high volume disk access (backup).
A consequence to the above is that the console locks and no more console logins
are possible, although it is still possible to login to the box through ssh.

According to messages posted on the netnews, this problem is related to an XFS
filesystem bug. Please see below a link to the google news thread.
 (http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&threadm=2kzjX-84V-5%40gated-at.bofh.it&rnum=1&prev=/groups%3Fq%3Dpagebuf_get:%2Bfailed%2Bto%2Blookup%2Bpages%26hl%3Den%26lr%3D%26ie%3DUTF-8%26selm%3D2kzjX-84V-5%2540gated-at.bofh.it%26rnum%3D1)

Steps to reproduce: run continous xfs filesystem access (backup to high speed
device)
Comment 1 Mauro M. 2004-08-29 10:55:35 UTC
I have extracted the xfs patches present in patch-2.6.9-rc1 (the whole patchset
breaks NFS functionality) and applied it to kernel 2.6.8.1.

The same problem occurs although more infrequently and without the side effect
of blocking the console.

Is this issue still present in kernel 2.6.15?
Comment 3 Adrian Bunk 2006-04-22 09:50:12 UTC
I'm assuming this issue is already fixed in recent 2.6 kernels.

Please reopen this bug if it's still present in kernel 2.6.16.
