Created attachment 307331 [details] dmidecode **Summary:** Since upgrading to kernel 6.12 on my ASUS Zenbook UM5302TA laptop, the behavior of function keys (F1-F12) is inverted. To press "F1", I now must use the "Fn" key. Additionally, the "Fn+Esc" combination no longer toggles the function key lock. Only brightness and volume function keys are working as expected, while others such as keyboard backlight toggle or touchpad disable are non-functional. **Distribution:** Ubuntu 24.10 **Kernel Version:** 6.12.x (issue not present on previous kernels) **Hardware Information:** ASUS Zenbook UM5302TA (AMD Ryzen 7 6800U) BIOS: American Megatrends International, LLC. Version: UM5302TA.313 (Release Date: 09/10/2024) **Steps to Reproduce:** 1. Boot into kernel 6.12 on ASUS Zenbook UM5302TA. 2. Attempt to use standard F1-F12 keys without pressing Fn. Keys respond as if Fn were engaged. 3. Attempt to toggle Fn lock via "Fn+Esc". No toggling occurs. 4. Test other function keys (e.g. keyboard backlight, touchpad disable). These no longer function. **Expected Behavior:** - Function keys should operate in the chosen mode (standard F-keys or multimedia keys) without requiring permanent use of Fn if previously toggled. - "Fn+Esc" should toggle function key mode (F-Lock). - All function keys (backlight, touchpad toggle, etc.) should function as intended. **Actual Behavior:** - Function keys act as if Fn is always required. - "Fn+Esc" does not toggle function key lock. - Some function keys related to keyboard backlight and touchpad are non-functional, while brightness and volume keys still work. **Additional Notes:** - This regression appeared specifically after updating to kernel 6.12. - Works correctly on earlier kernel versions.
Kernel 6.12.5 should contain the necessary fix.
