Any attempt to start Cinnamon desktop (execute cinnmon-session) causes and immediate halt of the whole OS and reboot. This is probably caused by a defect in the i915 kernel driver.

Cinnamon devs do not want to take the blame: https://github.com/linuxmint/cinnamon/issues/9752
