[2.] Full description of the problem/report:

After an iwlwifi "crash" (I'm not sure of the proper vocabulary for driver errors like those) 
(reported in bug 207409 ) a kworker process start taking 100% (or close to 100%) on a CPU. 
The kworker process is always named "kworker/u8:x+phy0" where x is an number < 100 (so far).
Here is a the information from `top` on that process :

Once this has happened, all network related process (whether they were already running or 
launched after the  hangs and are unkillable, including sudo (I believe it needs to query the hostname ?).
That prevented me to examine the stack in /proc/KWORKER/stack.
The kernel logs contains messages about blocked tasks 
(both userspace progams and kworker  blocking for more than 122/245 seconds)

The call trace for each of this message has the same first 4 lines (exactly identical except for timestamp) 
for every hanged task, so I suppose the problem is related to preemption and a mutex not released (wild guessing).

The solution to get back to a working system is to hard reboot the computer. 
Soft reboot does not work network related services do not stop and can't be killed.

Not sure. I see this for several months, but due to the erratic nature the first few times I just rebooted and call it a day.
I think it has happened at least since 5.5, and probably earlier.

Can't reliably reproduce.
However, maybe I could if I had a way to reliably reproduce bug 207409 . 
Or is anyone aware of a way to purposely trigger this Microcode SW error ?

I should be able to compile a custom kernel with more debug options if needed and run it (and wait for the bug to appear),
but at the moment I'm not sure which options I should enable for that. If someone could provide pointers on that I'll be

Yep, no firmware crash. And yes, I reconnect (I didn't notice it right away but I was working online and did not noticed any disruption afterwards; and my imap synchronizer logs do not show any signs of not working 1 minutes after that log item ; so I think it's safe to suppose the wifi was correctly up
