Netconsole

Hi

Starting with the kernels from Ubuntu mainline, since 4.16.7, the notebook would completely freeze when an USB 3.0 HDD was shutdown. With the Linux kernel from git, built using "make localmodconfig" the same issue exists.

Steps to reproduce:

1) Insert USB HDD in a USB 3.0 port;

2) Use the "shutdown this disk" button from gnome-disk or "udisksctl power-off --block-device /dev/sdb" to shutdown the external USB HDD before unplugging it.

Expected result: USB HDD is shutdown and the system works normally after this.

Observed result: the OS freezes near entirely, only netconsole is still functional.

The moment the button is pressed, the system freezes. The touchpad may move the cursor for a few seconds later, but then it freezes too. The only functionality noticed is netconsole, which keeps sending the messages.

This bug was first observed with the kernel from Ubuntu Mainline version 4.16.7, but this happened too with v4.17-rc5-20-g21b9f1c7e319.

Information from the notebook:

Model: Lenovo Ideapad 310-14ISK
OS: Xubuntu 18.04 amd64
Processor: Intel Core i3-6100U
GPU: Intel HD Graphics 520
RAM: 8 GB

All USB bugs should be sent to the linux-usb@vger.kernel.org mailing
list, and not entered into bugzilla. Please bring this issue up there,
if it is still a problem in the latest kernel release.

Use a sane email provider (i.e. not hotmail.com)
