Description patrickfauxpas 2017-12-22 21:50:45 UTC
No sound out whatsoever after upgrading from 4.12.13-1-x86_64 (Arch). Until today seemingly no fix. SoundCard is Creative Sound Blaster Live! 5.1. (using digital DIN as out)

Soundcard available in alsamixer; SB Live switch in alsamixer works as indicated by status LED on Cambridge Soundworks receiver.

Similar but seemingly uncorrelated bug was filed and fixed: https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=196687

journalctl prints two Errors:

pulseaudio[521]: E: [alsa-sink-emu10k1 efx] alsa-sink.c: snd_pcm_rewind() failed: Invalid argument
pulseaudio[521]: E: [alsa-sink-emu10k1 efx] alsa-sink.c: process_rewind: Invalid argument

No Errors found on dmesg or mpv stdout.

Output of ALSA Information Script v 0.4.64 uploaded to http://www.alsa-project.org/db/?f=1b1f8e2c9d98f42b01d6f41acb239ba6420b5a4b

Help would be very much appreciated since the bug prevents upgrading from 4.12.x

It looks rather like a bug of PulseAudio. The driver returns now the error for the not-working rewind operation properly for emu10k1 EFX streams, and PA seems not satisfactory and doesn't coop with it.

Thanks very much for the input. I rid the system of pulseaudio to test. DigitalDIN remains silent. Switched to analog out now as a workaround. Will report back if further insight is gained.
