Description blagoje342 2017-11-19 13:35:20 UTC
Description of problem:
On my ThinkPad E440 after waking from suspend, computer restart. I can also notice on waking up fan start spinning faster and after aprox. 10 sec it restarts.
It happens with kernel-4.9.13-201.fc25.x86_64 and three earlier versions. I have tried many things to check if it is some of my setting or apps that produce this bug. In the end I have reinstalled my system and let it update. Problem persisted. Then tried to reproduce this bug with starting Fedora kernel-4.8.6-300.fc25.x86_64. With it wake up normaly.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
- kernel-4.9.13-201.fc25.x86_64
- kernel-4.9.14-200.fc25.x86_64
- kernel-4.10.8-200.fc25.x86_64.

How reproducible:
With this kernel, problem is constant when resuming from suspend.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. On resuming from suspend with kernel-4.9.13-201.fc25.x86_64 on Fedora 25, ThinkPad E440
2.
3.

Actual results:
It resume system, but then restart computer. Also faster fan spinning is noticeable.

Expected results:
Normal resume (without restart).

Additional info:
As I said I noticed that fan is spinning faster when this bug is going to occur while resuming.

P.S.
In a mean time, I have switched from Fedora to Manjaro and bug still persist.
On Manjaro's 4.8.17-1 and 4.9.59-1 it is not present, but on higher it is (4.13.10-1, 4.12.14-1).

One addition about Manjaro kernel's, 4.9.59-1 IS affected with this bug.
To summarize kernels both on Fedora and Manjaro until version 4.8 dont have this bug. Kernels from 4.9 and higher have this bug.

Is this problem reproduced on the latest upstream kernel? If so, please help do
a bisect between 4.8 and 4.9, thus we can find the offender commit.

I'm not sure if I'm using lastest upstream kernel. I use kernels supplied with Manjaro.

If you need some logs I can provide them. If so, please tell me from which commands you need logs.

Normally in bugzilla the kernel from https://www.kernel.org/ is preferred than using distribution one. You might need to build the kernel image after downloading the source code above(git clone https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git). And the bisect is briefly described here:

Hi again, I build the kernel from the link you gave. The bug is not present. (There stays little doubt, if I haven't included something what is needed, because it is my ~third time to bild custom kernel.)

Also, noticed 4.14 kernel in manjaro repo, I have tried with this kernel and also the bug wasn't there.

It looks like it is resolved with 4.14 kernel.

Thank you for your time and help.

P.s. This is my second time to report a bug. :) (First one was on Fedora, with little success)
