Dmesg

Adding more context to the title, my laptop loses performance randomly, sometimes, it boots and the game performance is what I expect, but some other times it boots, but the game performance is 1/3 of what it should be.

Normal performance like browsing the web, listening to music, compiling, etc, isn't affected, which is weird.
My laptop is an HP Pavilion G4-2205la. I have posted about this on reddit, and they say that the culprit is HP's coolsense, thing is, I don't know why couldn't the normal behavior be forced.

Additional info:
* I have linux 4.11.9-1 from Arch's repositories.

* config and/or log files etc.

I attached the dmesg, as it's the only thing that comes to my mind that could spit something out about this.

Feel free to change the bug's component/product, as I thought that "power management" would be the most ideal one.

Thanks.

I could not find the coolsense kernel module you mentioned above, maybe it is a an BIOS option, could you point to me the reddit link?
Besides, the web/music/comping are working well, which means the cpu frequency should not be throttled, and this is what the thermal management would touch when the temperature is too high, but this should not the case per your description. I suspect there might be a adjustment in the graphic card.
BTW, you can always check with latest upstream kernel(not the distribution kernel).
And you can try running the latest 'turbostat' both when running in normal/abnormal cases, let's make a double check if the cpufreq has been throttled or not.

If you think this is a graphics bug, please file it at https://bugs.freedesktop.org/enter_bug.cgi?product=DRI&component=DRM/Intel

Otherwise please assign it to some other component than video here.

This is the reddit link: https://www.reddit.com/r/linuxquestions/comments/6ex4e0/cpu_doesnt_speed_up_when_gaming/

Coolsense is a HP driver that uses the accelerometer to detect if the laptop is in a stable/unstable position, and it makes the fans behave accordingly, Coolsense doesn't exist on linux, HP didn't make a driver, and they told me on reddit that, that my problem is because HP broke the ACPI standard with it, and they didn't bother releasing it to linux, basically, screwing me and other people over. But it *sometimes* behaves properly, so I thought this could be diagnosed to force it.

When gaming, the CPU *does* speed up to 2.70GHz, but the games don't make the cpu go to 100-90% load. It goes to 20% for some time, then it drops, and stays at 9-10%, like if I had nothing open.

PD: Sorry if you can't understand me properly, English isn't my first language, or my city.
PD2: I don't know what other component would suit this.

PD3: Turbostat doesn't work....

Turbostat error.

It's not a GPU driver bug.

This is present on current 4.12, and I noticed that the processor goes to 2.7GHz speed, but its load doesn't go past 20-30%, but when it's normal it goes to 80-90%. Happens to all games.
