Thanks for your report! How often does this happen? And does it disrupt your connectivity too much? This is a very old NIC and, unfortunately, we don't make firmware fixes for it anymore (and this appears to be that the FW got stuck briefly). We have a mechanism to recover from these errors (the warning you see) and try to continue operating as smoothly as possible. We'll probably have to close this as won't-fix. :(
*** Bug 192091 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. ***
As my report has been marked as a duplicate I will have to step in. It happens randomly, sometimes it just fails to connect right from the boot and will loop until I reboot. Sometimes reboot doesn't help and I have to shutdown. Other times I'm happily surfing web and wifi just crashes. Then I get endless loop of: [ 46.054609] wlp3s0: aborting authentication with 50:6a:03:69:22:20 by local choice (Reason: 3=DEAUTH_LEAVING) as you can see in duplicate attachments. You call 2011 very old ? Wow, I think I need to drop off my T430 to a junkyard. Anyhow, can recovery be made more reliable ? I'm not a big fan of endless loops.
This happens also on HP Folio 9470m, same behaviour. Looking at my old logs, the first occurrence of this issue happened on a 4.8.10 kernel release.
@Fabio, please attach your dmesg output. We would like to be sure this is indeed the same issue. Thanks.

indeed the same issue - thanks!
A possibly useful hint for who is hit by this issue: I'm usually able to make the network to work again by removing the modules and inserting them again: modprobe -r iwldvm iwlwifi modprobe iwlwifi HTH
I guess you could try to remove only iwldvm. It should do the trick as well.
Created an internal bug report to track this. We'll try to reproduce this and see if there's something obvious we can fix. Though, since this NIC is very old and not really supported anymore, it has low priority. But we'll do our best. :)
I'd like to note that when using 2,4 GHz networks it crashes everyday. With 5GHz I can use it for days, sometimes it spams dmesg on shutdown.
Unfortunately we won't be able to spend time on this. :( If someone wants to bisect the problem (AFAICT this is only happening with v4.9), we can try to fix it once the problematic patch is found. Closing for now. Feel free to reopen if you find the culprit.
I am seeing the same problem on a OpenSUSE Leap 42.2 installation, which is running a 4.4.36 kernel. As far as I could see none of OpenSUSE's patches is touching the iwlwifi. I'm using a 6230 on a Dell XPS 14z (which is less than 5 years old). It started after I updated from a OpenSUSE 42.1 with a 4.1.36 kernel. I don't always see stack traces, but the typical lines with Error sending REPLY_SCAN_ABORT_CMD: time out after 2000ms. and Microcode SW error detected. Restarting 0x2000000 occur daily. At that point it often helps to restart the access point (ch. 4/2427MHz). Other than that specific AP seem to work fine. Re-loading the iwlwifi and/or iwldvm does not really seem to help...
I'm using the kernel 4.14 with Arch Linux and Plasma 5.12 on a Thinkpad x230 with an Intel 6205 wifi card. I have the exact same dmesg output as Fabio Coatti.
Oooh, I am getting regularly hit by this bug too, same NIC, currently using 4.18.16. Seems to mostly happen after resume from suspend, but I could be wrong. Reloading the iwldvm module fixes it. It is pretty annoying, so I'm willing to spend a bit of time to help track it down. I don't do git bisects very often but I should be able to figure it out. Any other hints on how to proceed? Thanks, cheers.
Hmmm, yeah, I might need some help here. I did a shallow clone of linux-stable to a depth of ~80, enough to get the v4.8 tag, but there are no tags or branches for 4.8.x. Do I need them? Or should I just verify that the latest 4.4.x works first?
Curiously, this issue hasn't happened to me for the past week or so, whereas previously it was happening daily or multiple times per day. But I haven't changed anything... other than upgrading to 4.18.20. So I just looked back through the ChangeLogs, and... bingo! I think we got fixed in 4.18.19! I still see dark red text that begins with: iwlwifi 0000:5c:00.0: Error sending REPLY_SCAN_ABORT_CMD: time out after 2000ms. in the kernel log, but it's not followed by the white stacktrace/dump any more. It appears to have been fixed in response to bug report #200659, but I'm not 100% certain. Can anyone else verify that 4.18.19 or 4.19.8 fixes the issue for them?
Can't confirm. For me it happens also with Kernel 4.19.16. I will try a complete new installation of my system.
