Manufacturer Specifications (PDF): http://cdgenp01.csd.toshiba.com/content/product/pdf_files/detailed_specs/satellite_L505D-S5983.pdf Operating System: Arch Linux 64 In order to install the OS (done April 10), or use another boot program like gParted Live, acpi=off or acpi=ht (to be deprecated) is required, else, after the initial text after selecting a menu option, the system locks up with a black screen and does nothing. With acpi=off or =ht, the system works fine, sans higher temperatures (73-75 C vs 65) and no acpi / power management at all. I assume that the laptop always requiring a manual push of the power-off button with "poweroff" / "shutdown now" is a part of the acpi issue. "I'm running one with "acpi=ht" in the grub boot line (results in "select() to /dev/rtc to wait for clock tick timed out" error for both cores, but does not with acpi=off). There are no ACPI functions (nothing in /sys whatsoever)..." Attached is the output of "hwinfo"... I am wrong... The screen only cuts to black with any "vga=" in the kernel boot line. Without it, a bunch of text flies by and then the system crashes after what may or may not be debug info. In any case, photos: http://sky.sploitz.com/16343/001.png http://sky.sploitz.com/16343/002-last.png The second is what is last shown when the system freezes and requires a hard shutdown.
please attach the acpidump with system is boot with acpi=off.
