Description Sven Köhler 2010-06-03 09:47:38 UTC
On my newly installed Dell E6410 laptop, the halt command does not power off the PC - instead it reboots.

It a self-compiled vanilla 2.6.34. Please advice, how this issue can be debugged.
Comment 1 Sven Köhler 2010-06-04 12:39:20 UTC
It might have been related to a broken uvesafb setup. For now, the problem has gone. Closing.
Comment 2 Sven Köhler 2010-06-09 08:03:43 UTC
Problem reappeared.
Comment 3 Sven Köhler 2010-07-02 09:10:07 UTC
Problem still exists in most recent rc.
Laptop behaves almost like its turning off (harddisk spin down, fan stops, etc. and then suddenly start over again).

Can confirm this on Dell Latitude E6510.

Reproduced on 2.6.34 and 2.6.35-rc3. Attaching my kernel configuration file.

I've just tried latest version from torvalds/linux-2.6.git (123f94f) and the system shut down successfully. I've tried it just once and hope it wasn't a random. Need more time to check, whether it is really fixed.

Problem seems to be gone in 2.6.35-rc4. Not quite sure yet, need more testing.
