This problem has been occurring since at least 2.6.30. I sent a query to the acpi list some time ago but didn't get any response and couldn't find any info from searching around. Thanks! The messages do appear to be very similar to the ones in that report. In this case, however, they've continued to occur in 2.6.32 and now .33.1.

Hi, I am reopening this bug because (1) it is not clear to me that it really is a duplicate of bug 14733 (the error message mostly matches, but I see none of the other symptoms reported by others in that bug); and (2) something has changed between kernels 3.0.1 and 3.0.3. In 3.0.1 I still got these error messages periodically. In 3.0.3 I now do not seem to be getting them, but another message has appeared that I've never seen before: [122286.091067] ACPI: EC: GPE storm detected, transactions will use polling mode This doesn't sound good either. Note: There is one ACPI/PM config difference between the 3.0.1 and 3.0.3 kernels - "CONFIG_PM_RUNTIME=y" was added.

Although the problem persisted with the setup in comment 15, it seems the patch did make it much less frequent, so testing was not easy. Currently running vanilla 3.9.5, and in this version it seems the logic in the ec_poll function has changed, so will run this way for a while to see if the problem recurs.

GPE storm happen on some machines and ec driver has proper process of using polling mode. The important things is whether there is an exception. So this is not an issue.
