Issuing a "sync" will block, and thus cannot dismount any drive, and during system shutdown, it will again block on "Halting system"....a hard powerdown is thus necessary.

Can anyone helped diagnose the error?

Some info:

Fedora Core 10, linus-git tree (latest):

and the configuration of the "/dev/sdc":

fdisk -l /dev/sdc

Disk /dev/sdc: 320.0 GB, 320072933376 bytes

where /dev/sdc5 is ext4 and the rest are ext3 or vfat.

Upon reboot, no dmesg error are also issued when mounted, and I can also copy files from /dev/sdc5 to other directories without any dmesg error. So not sure how to reproduce the error.

If you ever do recreate this, sysrq-w (echo w > /proc/sysrq-trigger) would show us all the hung tasks.
