dmesg with APIC activated

If i have APIC activated on my computer, it freeze when I don't move the mouse (or keyboard).

For example: I write a text at 15:00. I did not touch the computer for 30 minutes. When I return, the pc still shows 15:00 and the blinking cursor of the text editor is fixed. I move the mouse -> the restart time (15h01 ...) and the cursor starts to flash.
It is as if time stopped to move when I did not touch the mouse or keyboard and restart when I touch the mouse or keyboard

With APIC activated --> regular freeze.

With APIC deactivated --> All work good.

Got same problem on Ubuntu Jaunty 9.04 and just installed Ubuntu Karmic 9.10 Beta (Linux amilo-laptop 2.6.31-12-generic #39-Ubuntu SMP Mon Oct 5 21:48:10 UTC 2009 x86_64 GNU/Linux) with same result, that the whole system freezes (clock, GUI, network, ...) and moving the mouse unfreezes.

Using a Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo Xi 2550 laptop.

Using boot option: acpi=off --> no more freezes.
Comment 5 timidou0409 2009-10-08 08:00:16 UTC
I forgot to say : my computer is a Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo Xi 2550 too (2550-8013).
One other people, on the Mandriva's forum have this bug but with an other computer (based on ich8 too)
Comment 6 rgebert 2010-01-11 17:38:33 UTC
I got the same problem with an AMILO XI 2550.
Things ran flawless with openSUSE 11.1 with kernel 2.6.27.39-0.2.
The problem began when I upgraded to openSUSE 11.2 with kernel
2.6.31.8-0.1.
Boot option acpi=off cures the problem.
Comment 7 Len Brown 2012-10-30 02:15:10 UTC
is this still a problem with a recent upstream kernel?

I have the same problem since many years with a lot of RT kernel. It hapened with RT kernels of Ubuntu Studio, Tangostudio, and now KXStudio. Sometimes it use to occur during boot: boot freezed, and I had to press a key to continue.
I use now KXStudio with 3.2.36-RT: doesn't occurs on boot, just on desktop. Number of freezes increase after some time.
I can post any info which can help.

with noapic at boot, no freeze. With acpi=off, doesn't boot.

I'm not sure what is the -RT kernel, can you please try the kernels available on kernel.org, e.g. mainline or a supported stable kernel? Thanks.

No problem with lasts generic kernels for me, only happens on RT now. But if it helps, I'll post more infos.

Sorry for the late reply. I would suggest you to report this bug to some RT kernel mailing list, we here only track mainline or stable kernel bugs, thanks.

I still have this issue on generic kernel. I use 3.2.0. Only happens when nvidia proprietary driver are not installed: with nouveau or vesa.
