I have "PixelView PlayTV Pro 3" TV/radio tuner card, and it worked fine with the 2.6.31-6 kernel and the previous versions. The kernel module is loaded with the following options: options saa7134 card=42 tuner=38 given in /etc/modprobe.d/options.conf file. After the system upgrade to kernel 2.6.31-7 a week or two ago, the card stopped working. Namely, if for example I start gnome-radio program, there is a noise coming from the card like of not tuned radio, but changing the station/frequency does not seem to work at all. If I restart the system and select the old kernel 2.6.31-6, it works again. Yesterday the system was upgraded to kernel 2.6.31-9, but the problem still exists with it. I found in patch-2.6.31-rc6-git8.log log file that there are changes in the i2c* and saa7134 drivers and I suppose some of this changes caused the problem. FYI, I'm using Ubuntu Karmic (development branch) with all recent upgrades.
Could you please provide the dmesg output for both 2.6.31-6 and the latest -git?

I have Beholder FM 407, $ cat /etc/modprobe.d/saa7134.conf options saa7134 card=124 tuner=38 secam=d gbuffers=4 It work properly in 2.6.30, but in 2.6.31 tvtuner (tvtime) work properly (with sound), radio (gqradio) doen't work (Error: Invalid argument). Device /dev/radio0 is exist.
My SAA7134 cards are still working ok with 2.6.29, 2.6.31-rc8, 2.6.31, 2.6.32-rc3 (all from git, so version is not entirely accurate). When tuning has stopped working in the past, it usually outputs some sort of success/error message at the time the device is tuned. It would be useful if you could compare the logs for this from each kernel. e.g. [95921.634031] tuner 2-0060: tv freq set to 682.12 [95925.854461] tuner 2-0043: tv freq set to 826.00
Just tested again with current Ubuntu Karmic kernel 2.6.31-13 (as of Oct 13). The TV tuner works well, but the radio tuner still does not work (as described before - tuning is broken and only noise is heard). Is there an SAA7134 / tuner module option which I can use to obtain more detailed log information?

I received the following message from James Henstridge in response to bug #422822 in Ubuntu bug tracker (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/422822): "I ran into a similar issue with different hardware that might be the same bug (my report is bug 475165). I found that my radio card could be tuned correctly if the video4linux 2 API was used, but failed if you tried to tune it using video4linux 1. Now the v4l1 support is handled through a module that translates the v4l1 calls to equivalent v4l2 calls, so if a bug exists in that code it would affect us both even though we have different hardware. I wrote a patch for gnomeradio to get it to use v4l2, but the way it has been integrated means that it will use v4l1 in preference to v4l2. You can force it to use the v4l2 API by changing a gconf key though. If you want to test my hypothesis, do the following: 1. Boot into a kernel that exhibits the tuning problem. 2. run gconf-editor, browse to /apps/gnomeradio and change the driver key from "any" to "v4l2". 3. Start gnomeradio and see if it can tune the radio." I tested as suggested and now gnomeradio works again and can tune the radio! So, most probably the problem is in v4l1 module, not in "saa7134" or "tuner" modules as I thought before.

I have been using ubuntu 9.04 successfully since its inception. I usec the following commands to get tvtime to work. sudo nano /etc/modprobe.d/saa7134 hit enter next you will be asked for your password enter and press the enter key. now in the nano editor, type the following lines pressing enter at the end of each one. alias chr-major-81 videodev enter alias chr-major-81-0 saa7134 enter options saa7134 card=42 tuner=43 oss=1 enter now press the control key (ctrl) and the "x" key at the same time you will be asked if you want to save file: saa7134 say yes by pressing "y" key on the keyboard. When I upgraded to 9.10 and most recently 10.04, I was unable to get tvtime working. I was told that it could be a kernel problem but as a newbe, I've been unable to go back to a working kernel.
