Description Thomas 2008-10-05 16:31:12 UTC
Latest working kernel version: none, 2.6.25 same Problem
Earliest failing kernel version: ?
Distribution: Gentoo Linux 2008.1 / vanilla-kernel umasked
Hardware Environment: Laptop details later
Software Environment: none at this Point nothing other loaded
Problem Description: System Crashes if PowerSupply is plugged or unplugged

Steps to reproduce: Plug or unplug Powersupply with full loaded Batteryes.
Works after kernel has finisted. The first part of the kernel isn't influenced. I think in the near of the SATA Drivers or Scheduler. I Kernel has a Problem to Sync VFS and Crashes, nothing happens if I unplug the PowerSupply (I know hard to find)

Kernel booted with following options
init=/bin/sh # Shoud exclude init for Errorfinding.

Kernel Config: (Disabled everything what was possible to reduce the possible Error parts)

The Crash is done as a Reboot, this means, if you pull out the PowerSupply or Pull in the PowerSupply System reboots without something in the /var/log/messages.

If any further information is nedded feel free to contact me. May be its posible to give you an remote access on the Laptop.

Fun fun. I assume it doesn't crash in Windows ?

Need to know what sort of laptop, and attaching a dmesg after boot would be good

What happens if you boot with

acpi=off init=/bin/sh

then fiddle with the power supply ?

=======================================

It reboots, this is a thing that I`ve tried a view times. I even excluded ACPI, because it was my first thougt, that this could be the problem.

dmesg is following.
Comment 5 Thomas 2008-10-08 13:02:35 UTC
Because of a Undefind Error in this HTML Pages I can't attach Files, so I post dmesg output as comment.

Directly pulled after booting the Laptop (Init Level 3 with XDM and my full Kernel, not the minimal Kernel. If you nedd dmesg with the Kernel Config above, I install this Config again and to a new dmesg).

Comment 6 Thomas 2008-10-13 13:37:43 UTC
In this Problem doesn't exist in Bios, Windows or Dos. Even if i plug/unplug power supply at the beginning of the Kernel, it doesn't matter. The bug is located shortly before the SATA Drivers. The SATA Driver it self is not the Problem, because I used the old SATA Driver and had the same thing.

Please, if I can do something for you, let me know, and I try to test it.
Comment 7 Thomas 2008-10-14 13:34:01 UTC
Please have also a look to Bugreport 11753, in my opinion, there could be a link.
Comment 8 Alan 2008-10-14 13:52:24 UTC
Looks totally unrelated. No idea what your bug is and short of systematically turning things off and seeing what does and doesn't boot it would he very hard to find out.
Comment 9 Thomas 2008-10-14 14:21:15 UTC
I got this further information:

If i plug unplug at the marked Point doesn't cause the Problem. The Problem occurs after this Point. And the Problem doesn't occur, if the kernel has Panic.

Very weird indeed. If you build with CONFIG_USB=n (ie no USB) what is the behaviour ?
Comment 11 Thomas 2008-10-15 11:44:35 UTC
At my last try I had this option commented. But no differendce. Please have a look at my last Comment (nr 9).

thomas,
please verify if this is a duplicate of bug #11658.
Comment 13 Thomas 2008-10-30 14:50:00 UTC
No I don't think that his is a dublicate because setting of the Paramter
CONFIG_X86_RESERVE_LOW_64K=y
does not make any change.
Comment 14 Thomas 2008-11-06 10:30:00 UTC

Comment 18 Thomas 2008-11-17 14:15:09 UTC
If I try to boot with acpi=off apm=off usb=off
System hangs at

io scheduler cfq registered (default)

Don't know why.
Comment 19 Thomas 2008-12-13 16:11:37 UTC
Is it possible to disable the kernel free process? because befor the free I can unplug the power supply, after the free system crashes
