[2.] Full description of the problem/report:
Suspend to RAM fails, the PC will not wake up again. It only works if I suspend to disk before, then I can suspend to RAM afterwards (as many time as needed) until the PC is rebooted again.

I am using the latest kernel from linux-image-4.4.0-040400rc5-generic_4.4.0-040400rc5.201512140221_amd64.deb, /lib/firmware/i915/skl_guc_ver4.bin from Debian package firmware-misc-nonfree_20151207-1_all.deb. The PC has the latest BIOS v1.35 (November 27, 2015, http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp73501-74000/sp73582.exe).

I originally reported this bug to Ubuntu (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1375995). With the latest Ubuntu version 15.10, suspend never works, the workaround with first suspending to disk no longer works. With Arch Linux on the same PC, suspend to RAM works after suspending to disk.

Testing with pm_trace fails resuming,

When I start the kernel with parameter nomodeset and then suspend to RAM, after resuming the screen stays dark, but the machine reacts to keyboard input (I can type reboot or hit Ctrl-Alt-Del). It will also execute a script which is started after the suspend command, e.g. dmesg. A dmesg output after such a resuming with nomodeset is attached to this message. When the kernel is started normally (i.e. with modeset), the machine seems dead, it does not execute scripts or react to keyboard input and I have to power it off forcefully.

I also tested removing all modules, but it does not change the situation. Removing the i915 requires nomodeset, and this case works the same as nomodeset without removing modules, i.e. the machine reacts, but the screen is dark.

All tests with pm_test succeed, e.g.

It's a very long comment and I will summarize it as:
the PC doesn't resume unless nomodeset added to kernel cmdline, in which case, the screen isn't turned on after resume but reacts to keyboard and able to reboot with ctrl-alt-del.

I would say this is a GPU driver issue, move it there.
