sky2 crashed in a 2.6.23-rc3-based Fedora kernel. Apparently it's a regression.

Comment 3 Rafael J. Wysocki 2008-05-27 14:14:32 UTC
This entry is being used for tracking a regression from 2.6.25. Please don't
close it until the problem is fixed in the mainline.
Comment 4 Stephen Hemminger 2008-05-29 08:55:16 UTC
There have been only two changes to sky2 since to 2.6.25, so as a first step please see if either one of these caused the problem:

commit d494eacde8858f9b53f5c640692caf14eb3c8239
Author: Stephen Hemminger <shemminger@vyatta.com>
Date: Wed May 14 17:04:13 2008 -0700

sky2: restore vlan acceleration on reset

If device has to be reset by sky2_restart, then need to restore
    the VLAN acceleration settings.

Comment 5 Nicolas Mailhot 2008-05-30 10:42:25 UTC
Please note that it took several days to trigger and I don't really know what workload caused it (the system was idle with some light webmail serving), so I'm not sure I can reproduce it easily let alone test a patch.

Sorry :(
Comment 6 Nicolas Mailhot 2008-06-16 09:39:26 UTC
I haven't managed to reproduce it since the report.

So either it was fixed in one of the later git kernels fedora-devel merged, or it needs really unusual conditions to trigger on my box

Either way I'm clearing the regression flag.
Comment 7 John Paul Morrison 2009-01-22 11:11:53 UTC
Is this the same issue (see trace)? Sky2 has been unusable in 2.6.27 (Ubuntu 8.10) on ASUSP5KVM. I get watchdog timeouts, and networking stops/hangs for several minutes at a time. Stopping/starting the network recovers it. Plugging/unplugging the network cable does not recover (or shut/no shut on the cisco switch port it's plugged into). In the mean time I've had to install the marvell sk98lin 10.70.2.3 driver. (This hung once, but possibly because sky2 got loaded first in the initramfs. So far sk98lin is "stable" during normal operation, although it panics the kernel on rmmod!)

John, your system has multiple issues. The link is bouncing up an down,
do you have a bad cable, switch port, or duplex problems

Also the lost interrupt implies IRQ routing problems. And the back trace
looks like memory corruption since netdev driver name got whacked.

So it is a different issue than the old bug

Comment 9 John Paul Morrison 2009-01-22 23:39:54 UTC
It's a good cable and switch port - it was used on a different machine with no issues. According to the switch it's negotiated to auto/100. The hardware is also working OK with the sk98lin driver. There may also be some extra log messages because of me trying to remotely recover the system by resetting the switch port.

What debugging is needed to help here? I need to keep this system up, and so far sk98lin is working, but I could run sky2 again for a while and use another nic to remotely reset the interface.

I've attached syslogs from the dates I was running sky2
