Description dlazinumich 2015-02-24 16:00:59 UTC
Hardware: HP Elitebook Folio 1040 + HP Ultraslim Dock 2013 Docking station (Product D9Y32AA#ABA)
Distro: Ubuntu 14.10
Description: When laptop is docked, initiating shutdown will cause the system to restart. Attempted [from command line] poweroff, shutdown -h now, and [from GUI] using the shutdown button. This has not been the case (pre update) with kernel 3.16.0-23. When the laptop is removed from the docking station, it doesn't display either symptom (whether on AC or battery).

Perhaps some wake up signal made it start right after power off.
Kernel 3.16.0-23 works and 3.16.0-30 doesn't work suggests this is a regression, the kernel version seems to be distro specific, any chance to do git bisect?

Also, can you try the latest upstream kernel? i.e. 4.0-rc1 or 3.19?

Any update on the bisect?

This seems to have been resolved with the release of 3.16.0-30.
