no video with 3.18.0-5 when using "systemd":

This is for lubuntu-14.10 on dell e6500.

With kernel 3.18.0-5 under "upstart" video is okay (checked with xawtv and mplayer as well as with skype). When replacing "upstart" by "systemd", there is no video (checked with xawtv, mplayer as well as with skype). 

On the other hand, no such problems exist with the actual mainline kernel 3.18-rc7. However, exactly the same problems as with 3.18.0-5 were found with the previous mainline kernel 3.18-rc6. According to the Gentoo forum, some kernel options may not have been set.

no video problems of the type described above with kernels 3.16.0-26 or 3.17.4
