I am currently using kernel 3.14.2-031402-generic on a Toshiba nb500d netbook where everything works.
But on kernel 3.16.0-23-generic (default on lubuntu 14.10) after standby the screen stays black I can heare the fan and and the disc spinning and all the leds behave like starting from standby.

How can I help fixing this bug. I also tried to boot with kernel linux-image-3.18.0-031800rc2-generic which did not work (some kind of errror).

Sounds like a GPU issue.
By standby, do you mean suspend to mem? After resume, possible to ssh to the netbook to check its dmesg?
