Description Blackhold 2014-06-24 21:55:12 UTC
Hi,
I've got a thinkpad X230 with debian jessie (testing) installed, the radio is N capable but my system is not able to connect using N. The APs are N capable and it works with N with intel 5300ABGN network card, not with Advenced-N 6205.

Here I paste some info about the system and the hardware.

Tried to install ucode from iwlwifi-6000g2a-ucode-18.168.6.1 and also did not put wireless to N, and default kernel config is to load new ucode

root@carboni:/boot# cat config-3.14-1-amd64 |grep CONFIG_FW_LOADER
CONFIG_FW_LOADER=y
CONFIG_FW_LOADER_USER_HELPER=y

The output of dmesg on loading 6000g2a and then rebooting and getting it work with 6000g2b

Intel website drivers tells you to go to firmware-iwlwifi project:

If I could provide more info or do tests, just ask for it, I'll be glad to be helpful...

Thanks you much

Your description is very vague.
What do you mean by "my system is not able to connect using N"?
How do you check that?
Based on the bit rate? 54Mb/s?
Comment 2 Blackhold 2014-06-25 16:41:43 UTC
Yes, one is the bit rate of connection (showed in iwconfig) and the other is the speed, I'm not able to move than 20-30Mbit transfer, in N I could move about 70-90Mbit transfer or more.

Yesterday I tried to recompile kernel 3.15.1 but I was not able to boot with the last version kernel.

I offer me to do more tests.

All the info I could collect is in the first message. I'm sorry to not be able to show buggy stuff, I only see that N speed is not working on this card, with the version of driver and kernel I have.

Comment 6 Blackhold 2014-06-26 19:43:21 UTC
Mmmmm some clue?
Comment 7 Emmanuel Grumbach 2014-06-30 13:46:05 UTC
frankly no.

I don't have much time for this right now.
Comment 8 Emmanuel Grumbach 2014-07-21 08:52:33 UTC
please try 11n_disable=8
Comment 9 Blackhold 2014-07-21 08:53:30 UTC
where?
Comment 10 Emmanuel Grumbach 2014-07-21 08:56:21 UTC
as a module parameter to iwlwifi
Comment 11 Blackhold 2014-07-21 09:02:20 UTC
ok, try later, now I'm working
Comment 12 Blackhold 2014-07-26 16:26:33 UTC
now it seems is connecting at 65-72Mbps, right now I'm not at home and I'm not really close to the AP. So when returning at home try to see if it connects to 150 and 300Mbps.

For documenting it:

I edited /etc/modules and added a new line with:

iwlwifi 11n_disable=8

At the moment, thanks you much. What really do defining that?
