Bug 7166

Summary: erratic SATA disk piix detection ICH7 / INtel 945G
Product: IO/Storage Reporter: nabiki
Component: Serial ATAAssignee: Jeff Garzik (jgarzik)
Status: REJECTED INSUFFICIENT_DATA
Severity: high CC: bunk, htejun
Priority: P2
Hardware: i386
OS: Linux
Kernel Version: 2.6.17.13 Subsystem:
Regression: --- Bisected commit-id:

Description nabiki 2006-09-18 12:50:47 UTC
Distribution:Ubuntu + mainline kernel
Hardware Environment:Intel P4 HT, 4 Gb, ICH7 945G chipset, 2xSeagate ST3250824NS
Software Environment: 2.6.17.13 SMP, MdAdm 1.12 , SCSI emulation for SATA

Problem Description:

RAID 1 disks, about once out of each ten times, BIOS detects both hard disks,
but linux sata reports no device for 2nd port. Thus, raid goes out of sync. No
disk recognized by driver (cfdisk fails and so) . Swapped cables & disks, fails
always for non-primary disk. Single disks ( 1 disk a time) worked ok for weeks.

Same problem with 1 x 250 G seagate and 1x80 WD Caviar disk.

Can you give a shot at 2.6.18-mm3?

Thanks.

Please reopent this bug if it's still present in recent kernels.
