Newer kernels put the drive into power saving mode on power off so that wouldn't suprise me at all if the drive went "boink" as it parked the heads. Alan, Kernel 2.6.13 have this problem Kernel 2.6.16 don't have problem Kernel 2.6.18 have this problem So, it's not real that only newer Kernel have this "bug", because one intermediate version don't show this problem. Why this intermediate Kernel don't have problem? Best regards What problem, parking the heads is not a problem However I am worried with this "boink", because this sound appear only in "original" Kernel (not Vendor Kernel). In MS Windows I don't have this strange sound, but if you say that is no problem, I understand you. Thank you so much! this is libata bug not a IDE one this is libata bug not a IDE one |
