My local channels.conf

From kernel 3.8 on the "terratec cinergy rc rev.3" usb-stick is supported by the driver dvb-usb-rtl28xxu.

With this driver I can choose only the 4 channels from my channels.conf, which use the frequency 538 MHz. The other channels with 594 and 618 MHz don't work.

The output of mplayer - after stalling at: "Getting frontend status..." is "dvb_tune, TUNING FAILED".

With older kernels I had to use the out-of-tree-driver from "https://github.com/valtri/DVB-Realtek-RTL2832U-2.2.2-10tuner-mod_kernel-3.0.0", which worked just fine. Unfortunately it doesn't compile with newer kernels.

Similar problem here. Device: 1f4d:b803 G-Tek Electronics Group Lifeview LV5TDLX DVB-T [RTL2832U]
With Ubuntu 12.04 kernel 3.2.0.43 the driver is in the kernel and works fine with vlc running with --dvb-budget-mode option (unless I can't see all the channels; I have problems with the frequency 698MHz).
With newers kernels (Ubuntu Precise with kernel 3.8, Debian Jessie with kernel 3.10 and 3.11 experimental and Opensuse 12.3) "vlc --dvb-budget-mode" give me the error:
"dtv access error: cannot setup TS demultiplexer: Invalid argument
main input error: open of `dvb://' failed" and with simply "vlc" the frequency 698MHz doesn't work with no errors (just black screen on vlc)
I opened this bug: https://trac.videolan.org/vlc/ticket/9450 but they said that it is a driver regression problem (the driver RTL2832U is in the kernel), so I'm writing here.

Edit:
With Debian Jessie and kernel 10 with mplayer I can see all the channels but not with vlc.
