It's puzzling to me also why LOG_AUTH is marked DEPRECATED in the man page. That text goes back to the original version of the page, written in 1994. I've applied your patch, less the changelog text (nowadays, the project generally just relies on the Git log, except in the case of major changes, which also get a note in the changelog in the page source.
