Software Environment:
Problem Description: With acpi enabled the shutdown and poweroff process end
very roughly. This is a bit hard to describe. If I disable acpi and shutdown the
system (apm enabled), the system shuts down, the disk stops spinning, the
display is switched off, and with the power led still on, it gives a short beep
after a second and the computer is off.
With acpi however, it seems like someone just pulls the plug, the disks sounds
more like crashing (it gives some sort of whistle sound) and it just feels
"unhealthy". 
Hmm, sounds weird, I know, but can someone confirm this?


Steps to reproduce:
- Enable acpi
- halt -p

compare to 
- acpi=off
- modprobe apm
- halt -p

Hardware environment: IBM thinkpad R40 2722DG1Kernel 2.6.3I can confirm this: strange noise with acpi, normal with apm.But I suspect the fan, since I get the the noise onlywhen the fan is running.
