Description KernelBug 2016-09-02 03:06:42 UTC
When running 4.7.2 I noticed in the logs this message;

pci 0000:04:00.0: [Firmware Bug]: VPD access disabled

I've read several things regarding this, but I'm not sure if it's affecting me, or what I read was correct...

I'm not running 4.7.2 at present because of this issue, so I'm not sure at the moment what logs I should include to this report.

If anyone does look at this and wants more information, logs, etc., please let me know.

I'd like to know what is going on here?

Something I read is about Hardware Identification, so I'd like to figure out if something is broke and can be fixed on my end?

I'd like to use the 4.7 kernels, but am reluctant to do so in regards to this.

Thank you

I've come to realize what this is all about, and I've attached the patch that was applied at the 3.5x kernels over this issue.

For those affected and running the LTS kernels, because for 4.4x it's not been applied, I added the official patch...
