This entry is being used for tracking a regression from 2.6.31.  Please don't
close it until the problem is fixed in the mainline.

Yes it is an regression. There is already a bug report here: 14722 where a patch is posted.

Please merge these two bugs.

Yes, it is still present in 2.6.32.2

Confirmed on 2.6.32.2 for me as well. Note i can reactivate the display by Hitting Fn + Output (which toggles between external VGA connector and the display of my notebook).
