Both Truecrypt 7.1a and Veracrypt 1.17 report an error "Failed to set up a loop device" on a Linux Mint 17.3 / 64 bit system. Therefore, no encrypted volume can be mounted.
This behaviour was seen on 2 different computers one running an AMD the other running an Intel processor (both 64 bits, both running Mint 17.3). Same was observed on a VirtualBox guest OS.
Same systems with Kernel 4.6.0 or 4.5.x work well without any such problems.
Kernel 4.6.1 was not tested.
