Product: Platform Specific/Hardware Reporter: Sergey (cy6erGn0m)
Component: i386Assignee: platform_i386
Status: CLOSED INSUFFICIENT_DATA
Severity: high CC: alan

Description Sergey 2008-09-11 23:50:41 UTC
Latest working kernel version: 2.6.22-19
Earliest failing kernel version: 2.6.26
Distribution:
Hardware Environment: Dell Inspiron 1501, AMD Thurion X2 TL52
Software Environment: grub-0.97-20, linux-2.6.26
Problem Description:
Linux kernel hangs at boot time before kernel console shown at black screen without any messages.
I tried to build it in different configurations, but it does not help.
2.6.22 build by hand is work fine, but 2.6.26 does not.

Steps to reproduce:
just build with default configuration (but, ahci and atipiix should be turned on) and try to boot.

if hang before kernel, did you try "acpi=off"?
Comment 3 Thomas Gleixner 2008-09-12 00:34:12 UTC
Can you please attach the config of 2.6.22 and the one you used to build 2.6.26. A boot log from 2.6.22 would be helpful as well.

Thanks,

Does pressing the Shift key on the keyboard cause it to continue booting?
