Hi, 

plenty of Notebook Computers (e.g. Toshiba) use the RTL8187b chip as a builtin WLAN controller (USB 0bda:8198). 

Unfortunately, Linux does not support this chip yet. Maybe the differences between the RTL8187 and the RTL8187b are small enough that minor modification of the existing RTL8187 driver could make it work with that chip.

rtl8187b is queued for 2.6.27, but I don't think it covers the 0bda:8198 ID.  Aparently that has some differences from the other rtl8187b parts.

We have no information on how to support the parts in question.

I have googlede a bit and have found that some ubuntu users have found solution here: http://planeta.rambler.ru/users/crowfish/45208465.html - sorry, the text is in Russian, but points 2 and 3 there are understandable for everyone.

Yes, it seems that the rtl8187 driver in current 2.6.27 can support the device in question.  Would the OP like to confirm?
