I just realized in dmesg that my 4.3.0 kernel complains about this. I have Dell Vostro 3550, which is a SandyBridge based laptop.

Please file new i915 bugs at the freedesktop.org bugzilla:
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/enter_bug.cgi?product=DRI&component=DRM/Intel

We probably have this fixed in drm-intel-nightly branch of http://cgit.freedesktop.org/drm-intel anyway.

I have the same error/message on kernel 4.12.5
