Can you please post full result of 'dmesg'? There should be leading libata messages before those buffer IO failure messages. Also, please post the result of "lspci -nn". occur with a Toshiba Tecra A7 with the following drive: MATSHITA DVD-RAM UJ-850S 1.20 PQ: 0 ANSI: 5 so I am not sure if it there needs some quirk horkage needed for this particular range of MATSHITA
