Bug 103361

I hope this is the right "Product" to file this issue on. I'm having trouble with any Linux system since changing my hardware setup (I now have mentioned proessor and a new ASUS H97M-E motherboard) – the system just freezes randomly.

It might as well be the hardware that is faulty, but I'm filing a bug here because I don't really know where else to get help.

Also, the freezes are not completely random. I can reliably reproduce this by booting the current Antgeros live CD and adding a keyboard layout in the system settings, while I can use the live system browsing the web for a longer time before the system freezes.

When it freezes, the PC can't be pinged anymore and any active ssh sessions don't react anymore. The CPU fan keeps spinning, but I had a compiler running at one point where it froze and the fan got significantly quieter then. Another thing I noticed is that the mouse pointer disappears a few seconds after the system freezes; I really have no idea how that works.

Worth mentioning too might be that since the upgrade, my sound doesn't work anymore, and on my main system, the speakers emitted a constant sin-wave like sound (not as high-pitched as old electronics or something like that) and at many points where content on the screen changed (e.g. I opened a window; not mouse pointer movement) I heard static from the speakers (not very loud, but noticable). Could this be a sign that some part of the hardware is defect?

I didn't yet try to start a non-Linux system. I might have a Windows 7 installation disk lying around though, should I try freezing the system while in the Windows setup?
